Q: I have come across a few ladies who are using Monistat as a hair growth aid by applying the cream directly on the scalp twice or more times a week. The reasoning is that the active ingredient in Monistat, Miconazole Nitrate, apparently helps grow hair faster. Is it safe to use the cream on the scalp for long periods of time? Are they any potential side effects from using it this way over time? Does the Miconazole Nitrate aid in hair growth? Looking forward to hearing your expert opinion.

Q: I've heard a couple places on the Internet that you need to iron your underwear--or do something else that will use high temperatures--to kill yeast so you don't reinfect yourself. I was wondering if this was true, though, since I can't seem to find a reputable source that mentions this. I also don't understand how you could 'reinfect' yourself with the yeast--since it is part of your natural vaginal ecosystem anyway. Q: I've never had a yeast infection before. During a trip to Mexico I began getting all the noted symptoms after swimming in the pool and ocean. Symptoms worsened after snorkeling. From initial appearance to extreme symptoms was about three days. Seeing as it was the weekend I went to the ER. They did a pelvic exam am told me all was fine I only had vaginitis from a little bacterial infection, I was given antibiotics. The next couple of days my symptoms worsened. Is it normal for a yeast infection to worsen if given antibiotics? What happens if it goes untreated? How similar is it to herpes?
